"Lifelong" Sculpture
Posted on 10/05/2017

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Webster Elementary, students and staff attended a ceremony for the “Lifelong” sculpture that was installed at the school. Webster students were able to watch artist Kent Hutchinson install the sculpture. A ceremony followed that included a scarf dance by kindergarten classes and comments from the artist.

Webster Elementary researched for more than a year to determine which sculptor would be best to create a piece that conveyed the school’s mission as an arts integration elementary school. Kent Hutchison is truly a “community artist,” whose creations enhance the neighborhood. Kent has long been a proponent of connecting art to areas of the curriculum, which is the core of the ArtSmart program at Webster. He is a proud alumnus of the Green Bay Area Public Schools, graduating from Preble in 2005. Kent will be an “artist in residence” at Webster in late October, at which time he will work with students on the design process, creation of an artist statement, and group design of a future piece.
