Arts Integration

The Webster Elementary Children’s Center for Integrated Arts began actively integrating art, music, theater, and movement into its core curriculum in the 2013-14 school year. Arts integration is essential to the school, and students are taught to construct and demonstrate understanding through the creative process found in the arts.

Technology plays an important role at Webster, as does community outreach and community service. These components help to create a well-rounded student who is appropriately prepared to thrive in our diverse world. The components of the program are as follows:

Instrumental Music - Students in second through fifth grade receive group piano or violin lessons twice per week as part of the school day. In fifth grade, students have the opportunity to play a band instrument.

Theater - Webster students perform a Junior Broadway musical each year. They’re involved in all aspects of the production, including stage crew, costumes, set creation, acting, singing, and more. Reader’s Theater and classroom plays are also used to demonstrate learning and understanding.

Vocal Performance - Being on the “big stage” is a unique and powerful opportunity for children. Students in grades three through five are invited to participate in “Forte,” a show choir group at school.

Visual Arts - Students at Webster study and produce amazing works of art. Art Club is offered after-school by Webster’s visual arts teacher, and there are opportunities throughout the year for students to learn from “Artists in Residence.”

Technology - The use of technology is integral to instruction at Webster. Technology in the classroom prepares students for their future and for our digital economy. Many classrooms have SMART Technology, 1:1 Google Chromebooks, and iPads.
